Default Want to get shot? Hunt South Dakota...!!

Hi...

If you want to get shot, hunt South Dakota...!!

Field and Scream says hunting "incidents" in SD are up 50% from the previous year, and SD officials don't know why.

There were fifty-six hunting incidents in SD reported to Game, Fish and Parks last year, including one fatality.

Eight hundred and six hunting incidents were reported since 1988, including 20 deaths...!!

Could it be something in the water...??

Ouch! I don't think I would want to even go out hiking there. It would be taking your life in your hands to camp. I have to wonder whether drugs or alcohol are involved in any of those statistics.

I'm glad I have no plans to be anywhere near South Dakota ever. I wonder what it is - could it be? I doubt they are all alcohol related.

South Dakota has supreme pheasant and water foul hunting which would make it a destination hunt for out of staters. It would be interesting to see if the majority of those incidents involved out of state hunters.

I kinda bet those are on public land, as well. From everything I'ver heard, the hunting on SD public land is very, very crowded, so you could expect more incidents.

Probably still a lot safer hunting than you are driving to the hunt.

Fortunately, most of these incidents probably involve bird shot

I have hunted deer in SD twice and found large mule deer both times. Logic says that hunter orange should be mandatory, and they need a hunter education program. We hunted private land and did not feel threatened.

This wouldn't explain such a large jump from one year to the next though, unless there's been a huge increase in hunting on public land in the past year.
