Default Waxing And Coloring Traps?

Why do people prefer to color and wax snares? I presume that coloring is useful for blending with the environment but why waxing, to cover the scent...?

Hi...

I can see some appropriate boiling in some type of 'natural' (hemlock bark/boughs, etc.) used to both remove scent and make the snares look more 'natural'.

As for waxing...with steel traps I've tried that...but decided that is wasn't that helpful...plus I always feared that the wax could easily pick up and hold other, unwanted scents.

Also, the tiny amount of surface rust that accumulated on the dyed-only traps each season was insignificant.
