Default Carolinas - Eastern beaches

What beaches in the Carolinas would you most recommend that people visit? I'm lucky enough to have opportunities to visit all of the beaches fairly often each year, and each one has its own special charms. What is your experience?

We like the area from Wilmington down through Myrtle Beach. Some of the beaches along there are still quiet and not as populated or commercialized as others. Now Myrtle beach is usually rocking but North Myrtle is O.K.

We have been to Kure beach and Carolina beach in N.C. I've never been to Myrtle beach before. We vacation all the time at Jekyll Island (Georgia). That is my favorite beach of all time.

I like Nags Head, and on down through Hatteras. Been a good while since I've been there though. Climbing the dunes at Kill Devil Hill was fun too.

Give me Ocracoke, although I do like most of the North Carolina beaches. There's something about Ocracoke that is timeless, and I love going back to those days before fast food chains, chain stores and highway traffic. If you've never been, you have to at least drive through there and spend one night in the 1950s or 1960s again.

You can't go wrong with North Carolina beaches, but Holden Beach is one of the best. That's where they have the sea turtles which I think were dangerously close to becoming extinct. If you want to do more than just enjoy the beach, they have the Festival by the Sea in October.

We took a bunch of girls to see the movie "The Last Song," with Miley Cyrus, that was filmed in North Carolina. They were down where the sea turtles came to visit. I wonder how far that was from Holden Beach?

My niece is a Miley Cyrus fan, so I looked up the movie. According to what I read, they actually filmed in Georgia even though the book's setting was North Carolina. They originally planned to film in North Carolina, but the state of Georgia apparently worked to get the movie's production locale changed. It was filmed in Tybee Island which is the same thing as Savannah Beach.
