Hi, oldsarge...

I'm not from the area, but bounced around some of it when I went to school at Great Lakes Navel Training Center.

I used to be a roller skating fool, and skated in many of the areas around Chicago. In fact, my ship was one of those that "opened up" the St. Lawrence Seaway...making the trip from the Atlantic to Duluth...!! I actually got mustered out at Great Lakes, too.

The locals thought that the young sailors there were the lowest form of life that walked or crawled...but, if you were sporting the name of a ship on your uniform...you couldn't walk into a bar (for example) and buy a drink...everyone in there would try to buy you one...!!
