Default Obama and Religion

Can anyone explain to me what is going on with all this talk about religion? Rick Santorum and Rev. Graham sound like mad men. Why doesn't anyone believe Obama is a Christian? If I told you I was a Christian would you believe me? The Republicans have already alienated 80 percent of the women in this country. Judging other people's religions is not appropriate in a political discussion. Please help me understand what is going on.

There are Christians, and then there are Christians.

Look at the Sunis and the Shiites, both are Muslems, right? Look at the Catholics and Protestants in Ireland.

So you have conservative Christians in the US, and then you have Liberal Christians like Obama.

And then you have Mit Romney. I'm not even going to to there......

Here is an interesting question. If you told me you were a Christian I would probably take the statement at face value and dismiss the issue since your religion is your business. If, at a later date, you exhibited behaviour that was not Christian, I woulld begin to question your honesty and possibly even suspect subterfuge for some dark purpose.

I also find your statement that Republicans have already alienated 80 percent of the women in this country to be highly suspect. Was there a poll or a national vote of women that verifies this? My next question would be why, and as an addend; why just the women?

I think I need more information. Please clarify.

I wonder about the 80% too. I try to take what anyone says with a grain of salt but like our might T-rex said, when a person gets into an area of gray that seems off course with what they say they believe in, it tends to make everyone question the person.

Santorum has recently announced that he is against contraception because it allows people to do things he does not approve of. Since 80 percent of women in the US use contraception, I made the statement above. The closer you look, the more odd this guy becomes. I urge all Republicans to look closely at his agenda before making a descision about voting.

The amount of judging going on by Santorum, Graham and various other conservative clergy is decidely unChristian if you ask me. Calling Obama a "son of Islam" is not accurate.

Let's try and determine his citizenship before we discuss his religion. It has not "really" been proven that he is a U.S. citizen. The religious views that we are looking for are the one that this country was founded on. People don't see the big picture as to where this country is headed. They had better read some Russian history books.

I question everything I read on the internet, way too much dis-information going on. All it takes is one person to make a comment and by the time it hits mainstream there are all kinds of accusations.

Do I believe he's a Christian? I agree with what Dinosaur said. I've known ministers who made comments that would question their religious status. Lamebeaver makes a good point also.

Do I think he's a US citizen? I think the powers at present would have sure he was prior to the election. And if they didn't, that's a whole other issue. If there's a major conspiracy, you can't blame Obama for going with the flow, especially if he had some kind of internal support. There' more to blame on this country's issue than just Obama. I'm not an Obama supporter either.

Do I think he is a Christian? For me the fact is I don't care what or if any religion he is. Religious affiliation or lack there of in my mind has no determination on ones ability to perform the duties of the office. I really question the candidates that feel that their religious affiliation is the biggest qualifier for the office of President.

He is interested in two things and two things only: making you afraid of it and telling you who's to blame for it. That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you win elections. You gather a group of middle-aged, middle-class, middle-income voters who remember with longing an easier time, and you talk to them about family and American values and character. And wave an old photo of the President's girlfriend and you scream about patriotism and you tell them, she's to blame for their lot in life,
- President Andrew Shepherd

Elections anymore are not about makes you a good candidate it is what the other person did or did not do. Sell the fear, sell the blame, but do not stand up and talk about your own character. Both sides do it, and it is only getting worse.

A better question is why does it matter, we have separation of church and state for a reason, and if we're going to let religion dictate what makes someone a good president we need to SERIOUSLY rethink our views on the highest office in the USA.
