Goodbye Technology When you go hiking do you always leave technology behind? How tempted are you to take a cell phone and leave it turned on?

We have a cell phone that is kept fully charged but not turned on. Honestly its not much use anyway since most of the places we go we have no signal anyway.

We bring cellphones just in case there is an emergency but you have to locate a spot for a signal first so you know where to go for an emergency call.

I bring my cellphone along just in case of an emergency. People have been saved from tough situations because they had cell phones.

I usually leave technology behind when hiking, and my cellphone is the only gadget I bring. Like the others said, it will be useful especially if something goes wrong with your hiking.

Well it depends for me. I always bring the cell phone and leave it on vibrate only so as not to disturb others. Just in case of emergency phone calls coming in or out. And I use it for keeping time as I don't wear a watch anymore. As far as the other technologies I do bring my MP3 player and headphones turned way down so I can barely hear it if the mood hits to keep me moving along. And the camera I bring for those cool shots, also good for those trail crossings to remind me sometimes if I need to retrace my steps.

Yep I like to bring along a MP3 player if the mood strikes, and a cheap cellphone just in case

I always have my cellphone with me and on when I go for my hikes. Like the other posters have stated, I like to know I can be reached in an emergency. I also bring my camera if we go on a hike as a family, for those candid, and not-so-candid shots.

Same here. I have gotten some of the most beautiful shots of the wilderness with my trusty digital camera. And of course I bring the cell phone, turned off but with me just in case. As far as music, I listen to the wildlife and nature. I'd rather not bring the phone but the wife makes me promise-just in case.

I bring my cellphone with me everywhere I go. Can't tell when an emergency comes up, so it's always handy to have it with me.
