Default Bears

Anyone every have any problems with bears? Over the past three years, bears have become a little more active in campgrounds near where I live.

First off, cool nickname.

You know what, I've still never seen a bear in the wild ... and I live in a region that's pretty bear-active. I've seen bear skat ... but no bears. (knocks on wood)

I still haven't seen a bear or any signs of bear down here in Florida. Yes we do have small black bear. And I've camped in bear country a few times. So I can't say if they have been more active or not.

I've seen a few bears in the woods. Of course I never see them when I'm hunting and can legally shoot them but whatever. My latest escapade with a bear is we went wheeling and camped overnight. As we were sitting around the fire we heard a noise behind us. WELL... we sort of didn't do anything with the bag of trash we had sitting out and we had us a nice small Black Bear no more then 20 feet from us. Everyone stayed still (for the most part) and we were able to scare it away. Someone had a plinker so we shot a couple of shots in the air to keep it away. Didn't have any issues with it after that, we were never in any danger really but it's always handy to have some sort of weapon with you.

The only problem I ever had with bears was my own fault. I left my food where they could get at it. After that, I've always kept it up off the ground, out of their reach and haven't had any more problems.
