How do you ensure that you get a good comfortable nights sleep when camping, do you have any hints?

This probably won't be of much help to you, Kernow, but I basically don't expect a good night's sleep when I'm camping. Some people like sleeping bags on the floor of a tent; not me. The first sounds of approaching morning always wake me up.
Some time later in the day, with the warm sun shining one me, there's the time for a nap!

I have to agree with Heretoday. I do not sleep well either. I usually wake up every few hours to check on the children. However, if I know that they are okay, I can sleep very well.

But if I go with another group, then the trek to the campsite and the day's activities usually wear me out.

We bring an air mattress.

We take blow up mattresses and I have a really snug sleeping bag. If the car is nearby I bring one of those metal frame camp beds because I find it more comfortable.

I am not keen on the blow up air beds, they feel wobbly and I don't sleep well. I usually have a couple of those roll up foam strips to go under the sleeping bag. It makes the ground a bit less hard.

Kernow I know what you mean, if the air bed is too well inflated it feels hard but if you make it a little softer it feels unsteady and you wake up each time you move.

I sleep in a hammock. I do tend to wake up every few hours but I still get plenty of rest that way.

We also have air mattress'. I sleep pretty good when camping. It is the mornings I hate when the inside of the tent gets all stuffy and hot.

I don't think I could do that, I like the idea of being off the ground but I wouldn't like the movement.
