Cool Suggest a Camp Site in New York

Hello:

My friends and I are trying to plan a camping trip for our spring break (mid March).

We plan on spending 3 days and 2 nights in the wild.

What we're looking for:
  • A site that is within a 4 hour drive from Long Island, New York.
  • A relatively lowkey site where we will truly be emersed in the wilderness. We don't want to be camping anywhere close to another group.
  • A site that allows for hunting (one member is licensed and will handle the hunting)/fishing and has the local resources (a lake, stream, etc) to make it possible.
  • Free? It's the wild; It should be free.

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot!

If your an experienced winter camper and have the necessary equipment, I'd suggest the Adirondack's for a wilderness experience. As far as hunting goes, you're out of luck unless you want to hunt coyotes. Everything else is either closed now, or will be by March fifteenth. Trout season doesn't open until April and the season for many of the other popular species closes March fifteenth too. There are a few species that can be fished for year round, but the lakes and most of the streams will still be ice bound at that time. On the up side It's free.
