| What would you do in a camping trip if this happened? As an avid camper/backpacker, you enjoy hiking into dense forest and setting up a crude camp. The camping trip is for 2 weeks and so you will need a stack of firewood. But by doing this, you are encouraging snakes to come live close by. What can you do to keep snakes away from your camp? | ||||||||

| Try collecting firewood on a daily basis. If you have to stack a few days worth, don't place them near the camp. Only keep a small amount near the camp. | ||||||||

| Well, you could do the snake dance. When I see a snake I usually start out with a loud scream (masculine of course), then I go into a frenzy of high jumps and running around in circles while screaming some more-usually this time it's like a little girl. Then I high tail it out of there until I'm sure the snake has had time to do what it wants to what I have left and then (taking a long (10 foot) pole with me, I go back to the camp site. I cautiously approach my camp site, using the pole to lift everything up and make sure I have thoroughly scared the snake to death. Of course this technique doesn't work for everyone, but I make it work! | ||||||||

| The best thing to do to avoid dealing with snakes is keep the camping area as clean as possible. That includes not having fire wood piled up near the camp site. Snakes like small, warm dark areas to crawl in to. Also be careful not to attract rabbits and other rodents because snakes eat rabbits. Unless you plan on catching the rabbit and eating it, do not let it hang around your camp site. | ||||||||

| I agree with some of the other posts if I was going to stack firewood I would have it somewhere a little ways off from camp. To me snakes are the worst part of camping!! | ||||||||

| LOL BackDoor!!!!! It's said in the old cowboy movies that if you circle your sleeping bag with your lariat, a snake won't cross it (I don't know why that is, ask the snake). Maybe a longer rope could be employed around the area you don't want snake-y. | ||||||||
