Default Training Specific Sections of the Body?

Paddling sports usually develop upper body more than lower body. Is there a concern that my lower body will be affected in some way by this forced upper body progress?

I wouldn't think so. Don't you get a core workout in a kayak or canoe. I think over all you would benefit from the additional workload.

No. Yes paddling is a good upperbody workout, but it still will only bulid muscles to a point. And it is not going to make your upperbody so strong your lower body can't handle it.

Well, strenuous kayaking certainly takes you down at least as far as the torso. I'm sure you also get some benefit to your upper legs from bracing them, especially in whitewater (not that I know much about whitewater kayaking).

If you're worried about it, I'd just alternate paddling and hiking to balance things out.

Your upper legs dont even really get that much of a workout bracing in a whitewater kayak. Actually a majority of your bracing power comes from your hips and core. The final part of a roll or brace is called the hip snap.

if you leave the kayak/canoe and hop into a wheel chair and stop using your legs altogether, then yes, your legs will be affected.

if you continue to walk around in your day-to-day life, no.
