Default White water rafting outfit near New Orleans?

We have the opportunity to go to New Orleans later this summer and I'm totally excited about it. Along with the chance to explore the city, though, we'd like to set up a white water rafting trip while we're there to take advantage of the river proximity. Anyone know a good outfit in the area that does white water rafting day trips?

Thumbs up

Oh that sounds just lovely. I didn't know that New Orleans had any white water rafting available. I used to go up rafting in the mountains when I got out of college, for spring and sometimes summer break. It was the best time of my life. My those icy waters sure were refreshing.

Some of us would use canoes, kayaks and rafts. We would go as a group and camp out. Those are some of my fondest memories of college life. Sure beats the hours and hours of lectures and studying.

The best I could find was this one. Mississippi whitewater - Okatoma Creek, Covington County It looks to be about 100 miles outside of New Orleans and is a class 1-2. About the best I can find for rentals is this Okatoma Outdoor Post Okatoma Canoe Rentals Mississippi, kayaks, cabins, camping,RV hookups, buses

New Orleans is a great city. You'll love it, especially if you like good Cajun food. I don't know anything about the white water there but it looks like Jason has given you some good information. Hopefully you'll have good weather.

you won't find any whitewater in Louisiana and you won't find any cajun food in new orleans. I'm a cajun and I've never found cajun food there.

For food, try Slidell.
Honestly, after Katrina hit, New Orleans has gone seriously downhill. The crime is far worse, most of the city still stinks of chemicals and sewage so watch out. I wouldn't book a hotel until you actually get there. You might find your room run down and festering with mold.
