Default Why?

Too bad the kayaker's camera couldn't be recovered, that would have been fun to watch. I can just imagine the pucker factor of this stunt!

Here is the video of the world record run at 189 feet. Love the call to his mom around 1:23

Some Kayakers are just crazy

Just another crazy video

https://vimeo.com/25478712

This one is absolutely crazy b/c of the approach. They drop into a class V+ gorge and it is a constant V+ run all the way to the drop. This is one of the don't f*** up or you are dead deals. I am happy with the Ocoee, haha.

Looks great. Makes me wish I had learned about kayaking when I was young. But now I like the smooth easy waters and I am content with them. Basides, just watching the videos makes my heart race and gets my adreniline pumping. That is all the Rush this old boy needs.

It is never to late to learn. While you will probably never run anything like those, very very very few do. But I paddle whitewater with folks of all ages. Start now if you want and you will be capable some of the thousands or class 3, maybe even some 4, in just a couple of years. It is a great sport that is lots of fun and a great way to see some parts of woods that might now be accessibility by hiking.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. You might be right but I've done some whitewater rafting and anything over a class 3 I think I'll do in a raft. Call me woos if you want. Then again, well, you just never know, maybe.

Different strokes(get it?) for different folks. I love the water heck I made it a profession. I have literally paddled thousands of miles. Not one single mile of it in white water though. For me paddling is meditative, prayerful, thoughtful time for deep thoughts, etc. Roller coasters are thrill rides. NOT boats. I cant hardly watch stuff like that and if ya had known as many folks killed on the water as I have, maybe you might feel the same.

People sometimes need to test themselves. For some it's paddling over a waterfall. For others it's jumping out of a plane. Some climb mountains.

If it makes you happy and doesn't endanger someone else, I cannot speak against it.

Default To Each His Own

I agree with Newanderthal. While I do not understand why someone would want to risk his life climbing up a mountain or jumping from a plane, as long as he is not hurting anyone else, Enjoy!

My husband went skydiving about 15 years ago; I stayed home and worried myself sick. He did fine on his landing but his brother's girlfriend broke her femur bone. One of her parachute straps caught on the plane as she was exiting and her leg just snapped.

Even so, my husband wants to skydive again. Just as I did before, I will remain home and worry.
