12 year old Oklahoma girls shoots intruder

Good for her, too bad the assailant didn't die. The only draw back I see to this is, her shooting through the door. There have been two incidents lately where kids were shot by their parents by accident. One teenager was wearing a mask and was confronted by his own father. The father didn't know who this was and after seeing what he thought was a weapon, shot and killed his own son. Another incident was a retired police officer who also shot his own son in a case of mistaken identity. This 12 year old girl who shot through a close door could have easily have killed a friend or family member. I know hearing smashing glass pretty much rules out it being a friendly at the door. But you should always be able to see your target. You're more apt to hit center mass!

Yea you guys are lucky enough in that respect but that doesn't mean some bleeding heart lawyer wouldn't challenge the fact that the girl could get her hands on a loaded weapon. I taught my sons from an early age, not to touch any guns unless I was right there with them. I also taught them to shoot when they were quite young. We never had a problem but I can bet my bottom dollar if one of my kids was in the same situation as that girl some lawyer would have yanked me into court for something or the other. I mean out here you can get jail time for defending yourself if the other guy gets the better lawyer.

The other guy doesn't really need to get a lawyer. The anti crowd get a herd of lawyers for him. We are well aware of that potential here as well. Our county sheriff just had a meeting a couple weeks ago on defending ourselves and concealed carry. They encourage carrying here but also warn that even if the law enforcement says self defense expect legal battles.
