Default $97 million awarded to state's national parks

Twenty-two national parks in California, including several in the Bay Area, will be awarded $97 million in federal stimulus money that Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said Wednesday will be used to fix trails, repair historic buildings, install solar panels and hire local workers.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act includes money for the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Muir Woods National Monument, Point Reyes National Seashore and the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park.
U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer said the infusion of cash will boost the California economy and shore up the state's most magnificent landscapes.
"I am thrilled that money from the economic recovery package will help improve California's national parks and ensure that these treasures are preserved for our children and our grandchildren," said Boxer, D-Calif.
