Default Best place to get Lodge dutch ovens

Hey gang,

Just wanted to share how I picked up my three Lodge dutch ovens and a Volcano Jr., for $140 - classified ads. Last year some guy who bought stuff from abandoned storage units auctions sold me a 10-inch Lodge, 12-inch (8 quart) Lodge and Volcano Jr. for $100. Today, I picked up a 12-inch (6 quart) Lodge for $40. If you're patient, you can find them.

Great bargains Randyski, how do you like that volcano?

As a side note, no doubt Lodge DO's are top of the line but we have found that Camp Chef is just as good. If you find Camp Chef on bargains like Randy found, don't hesitate. From these two brands there is a large drop off in quality, at least in the stuff that we have seen.

I can sometimes find stuff at yard sales. I got some as little as 50 cents. Sadly here it is hard to find, I think may need to head into the country more. I've tried craigslist, but they are expensive. I really want a cauldron. Well, cauldron may not be the right word. I found out about potjiekos cooking through braai cooking, and would like one of their pots, which is more cauldron then dutch oven shaped, to try some "authentic" cooking. Plus they look neat.

I got some really nice cast iron skillets at thrift stores for just a few bucks. These pans are smooth and slippery as glass, like they had been seasoned for a few decades by someone's skilled grandmother. I haven't lucked out with a thrift store dutch oven yet, but I keep looking. My dad has found a couple that way.

Checkout Chuckwagonsupply.com. They sell both Lodge and Camp Chef Plus they have all kinds of DO Extras ( Charcoal tables, utensils,etc...) Their stuff isn't cheap but they have things that are hard to find elswhere.

The Volcano is great if you're cooking small items or just a few items at a time. I've also placed my dutch oven in it to keep the charcoal off my concrete patio in the backyard. For what I paid, it works just fine.

Flea Markets and yard sales have lots of that stuff in my AO on the cheap.

Ooh a cauldron would be nice. I missed the summer solstice but it would be nice to have one for the winter solstice. I just need some eye of newt.
