Default Dutch Oven Weekend

Well we couldn't get away over Labor Day weekend like we usually do but we dfid the next best thing. My buddy Russ and I usually take our wives somewhere for labor day weekend and we do all the cooking dutch oven style. Since we couldn't go anywhere we decided to do the cooking anyway. Russ and his wife recently bought a house with about 1`1/2 acre lot. One of the first things he did was built a campfire pit, so we have been sitting around the campfire on many nights since they moved last summer. We setb up our canopies on Friday afternoon, set up or charcoal tables and cooking gear, made up a menu the week before, and invited another couple that we kayak with from time to time and had a grat time without going anywhere. Friday supper was Bunyon burgers cooked over the open fire, Saturday breakfast we had Blueberry pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon. Sat supper we had Chicken Italiano with home made garlic bread and several wines from a couple local wineries, a pineapple upside down cake and banana crisp for dessert. Sunday breakfast was my wifes famous egg bake. It is a pie shell with eggs, bacon, sausage, onions, and sweetpeppers smothered in cheese and baked to perfection. Burgundy beef stew for supper with homemade bread, and more wine. This followed by a happy helping of peanutbutter pie. Monday morning We had stuffed french toast with bacon and sausage. Not too bad for three couples that just couldn't get away for the weekend.

If I had neighbors like you I'd weigh 300lbs.

Clearly I need to start hanging out with you, Hikenhunter. That sounds like some wonderful food.

On the other hand, Groundpounder's got a point. For my figure’s sake, it’s probably best I know you only online.

Yea when I Became an assistant scoutmaster in my sons boy scout troop I only weighed in at about 135 lbs. Now, well you know. Not saying dutch oven cooking is to blame, but eating those tasty dishes sure did help get me up in the 200's.

Yum! Sounds delicious and not bad at all for not being able to get away. I wish I had neighbors who liked to cook and cook extra for my family too. I think we all gain weight as we get older.

Wow! That's a whole lot of food. Pretty yummy too. I have to agree with Groundpounder though. If you were my neighbor, I'd probably not be able to waddle back home for days even though I try with all that food.
