Going low carb will help you burn a boatload of fat by itself. My huasband has been a type 2 diabetic for three years now and we are a low to no carb household. Except for the cookiesand if you tell anyone about those well... you know the drill.

Seriously though, 3 months into low carb and hubby and I both lost a LOT of weight. He lost over 75lbs. and I lost around 50 until I got pregnant and gained a good portion of it back.

Not only that but also consult with a good pharmacist before taking these if you are taking any other medications. While they are natural they can still affect how other medication work in the body. Yes I did say pharmacist and not doctor. Working in a retail pharmacy have seen to many cases when a doctor will say take a herbal supplement that has a potential dangerous interaction with prescription drugs. Sometimes the herbal supplements can increase or decease the absorption and this can create problems. Also some supplements can be dangerous with certain medical conditions diabetes is a big one that you have to be very careful with.

I had great result with the South Beach diet. Not as strict as Atkins, more of a heart health diet for Cardio patients and diabetics. The weight loss is just an added extra that comes with the program. Well worth looking into. I have two friend who were on Atkins and one ran into problems with gout and the other with kidney issues. Both were told by their doctors that it was cause by the new diet they were on. On the other hand I know of several people who had great result with Atkins. It all goes back to not everything is going to work for everyone.

Only know of 2 people that did the Atkins diet. They both had great weight loss at first. Problem is that when they got off the diet they quickly gained the weight back and in one case more. I would be more of an advocate of watching the carbs not dropping them. I am not a fan of dropping anything completely from your diet as it will get hard to do as the body will start to crave the things you dropped completely.

Pills of any kind promising to melt fat simply don't work - period. So save your money and instead buy foods that fill you up on relatively few calories and find some exercise that you can stick to.

An old dietitian friend used to have this saying, "Fat makes you fatter faster." What she meant is that fat foods have more calories in them. Eat lean meats, high-fiber foods and lower calories. Make your calories count. Muscle burns calories faster, too, so build up those muscles through aerobic exercise. Walking is great exercise.

We eat pretty low carb here too because there are so many incidences of diabetes in our families. To add to what HikeorBike said there are no magic fat dissolving creams either. I can't believe how many people throw gobs of money away on that junk.

This is why I like the South Beach plan. First two week, no carbs at all. The first three days are the roughest. After that you loose your cravings for carbs. Second phase reintroduces healthy/resistant carbs. You can stay on this phase as long as you like to achieve the weight loss goal. Third phase is pretty much eating in a more educated manner.

I've seen a lot of people use Weight Watchers successfully. Most people need help with portion size and adding low glycemic fruits and vegetables to their diet instead of high calorie snacks. Many people don't eat breakfast and over-eat later in the day because they are starving. WW teaches you how to enjoy 3 meals a day and snacks between meals without feeling too deprived.

Good luck on becoming healthier!
