Default Fell down the stairs

I took a tumble yesterday morning down our stairs. I only stepped on the first one and then went down the other 14 on my butt! I'm sure I fractured my tail bone! It hurts like the dickens. I can't sit on my butt - I keep getting spasms! I know the doc won't do anything for a tail bone - anyone hurt like this before? How long before I feel better?

Hi...

I feel badly about your incident. The only "medical" advice I can give is "Get thee to an X-ray, pronto". Really...!!

Without proper medical attention, it may never get "better".

I agree with ppine. As an EMT, I see people that have fallen a lot. There can be some serious damage that can only be diagnosed by X-ray. Especially if you've fractured your coccyx, you need to get evaluated. Also...you can likely get some decent pain meds!

I've broken my feet three times on stairs. The last time my wife was laughing so hard she could hardly drive me to the ER. I need trekking poles and a first aid kit in my pocket to go out the front door.
Yet she enbraces my hikes. I'm going to check my life insurance. Maybe there's a clue.

I fell through the steps once! Hit the left side of my rib cage on the way down and cracked a few. Woke up under the steps laying in the snow. It was like three months before I felt really good again.

We have had a few tumbles like that. With steep steps we always worry about the kids. Even our cat has tumbled down these stairs. Go visit the doc ASAP.

Put one foot thru the rungs of a ladder once. Fell sideways, twisted my ankle and knee, and brought the ladder down on top of me. The only thing that saved it from being a total slapstick is that the paint bucket was empty (and it missed me on the way down).

It was weeks before my ankle felt totally normal. Ice for the first few hours, elevation and NSAIDS, then heat and gentle movement to maintain the range of movement all helped.

That said, you don't want to fool around with a possible fractured coccyx.

I came off a horse once and injured my coccyx really bad. Sitting was very painful for more than 6 weeks, more like 8 weeks. In those days we used DMSO and got back on because there were cows to move. I learned to keep a very light seat. Two weeks later we were hunting elk horseback. We were young then.

Hi...

Over-application of DMSO can cause a burning sensation...er, so I've been told.
