| Gun safe Now that my 2 year old is roaming around everywhere and into everything my husband and I know we need to get a gun safe. We have been looking at local stores and they are all at least $1000! Do you now of anywhere we can get a good one that is much less expensive than that?

| It will take some time but you can find them cheaper. How are you storing it now? I know a few parents that worry about this too and have kept the guns out of the house until they can resolve the storage issue.

| Is it just the 2 yr old you are worried about? If so, trigger locks or a locking gun case are a much cheaper substitute.
I have something like the following. It is light enough it could be stolen so it needs to be anchored into a wall, and it doesn't protect against fire but it will keep kids and other honest people out, and unless a crook has a lot of time will deter theft as well. | That's a pretty good looking gun cabinet there. We are in a similar situation and need to get something here pretty soon. I also need something to store all of our ammunition in!

| Thanks for the link Grandpa. I think something like that would work just fine for the time being. Calanta for now they are placed well out of reach where even with a chair she couldn't reach them. At night they are on the bedside table, but she is gated in her room.

| Have you considered adding a keyed lock to a closet door?

| I got one from Tractor Supply. It was on sale for a bit less then the website is showing. Winchester® Gun Safe, 24 Gun Capacity - 1043297 | Tractor Supply Company
With the exception of no moving company is willing to move it upstairs for less then the price of the safe, I like it. Just need to find a more permanent place.

| Grandpa and Cozincowtown have pretty much said it all. But I am confused. Do you leave loaded guns laying around your house? If you do for reasons of home protection, they aren't going to be very effective locked in a safe. If not there is the old saying that a unloaded gun is nothing more than an expensive paperweight. If it's not loaded, about the worst that could happen is the kid would drop it on his foot or pinch his fingers in the slide. My advice would be to lock up the ammunition.

| My gun safe doubles for holding things other then guns and amo. As far as for home protection. Well, the person who breaks in will find out what I have. I have something in every room I spend a lot of time in, although not everything is a firearm.
Guns are locked up to help prevent theft, along with keeping those I do not wish playing with them from being able to.

| My ammunition locker is a totally different lock and key and in different rooms. Exception is what is in the weapons that are also not locked up.
