Default homemade ricebags

I know I have seen these in stores before, either rice or bean bags that you can heat up to wrap around your neck. Does anyone know how to make your own? I am wondering what type of beans might be best for it or material for the cloth?

I use tshirt or light fleece and fill it with cheap rice. I put about a pound of rice in an 8" square pillow, heat it for 3 1/2 or 4 minutes in the microwave. It helps the sore knees and shoulders, sore back, and can keep you warm in bed for hours. Navy beans might work too.

If you want to use beans then you will need something small, but I have always heard that rice works better and holds the heat for longer.

As far as the material is concerned use natural materials like cotton, nothing synthetic. I understand that using fleece is more comfortable but be cautious when heating up.

I would definitely use rice. As for the sleeve itself, I don't see why you couldn't use jersey or flannel. Both would be very comfortable.

I have used a rice bag years ago from a friend but I heard the bean ones were better. I wonder if its just a different of opinion or maybe one works better depending on the type of pain and where it is located. I am still looking for some in stores while I figure out how best to make my own. How long do you think they last for?
