Default Off to the pumpkin patch

As soon as my kids get up we are going over to my parents house. This year they planted a pumpkin patch just so my kids could come over and pick pumpkins. Unfortunately, they planted them a few weeks too late so their pumpkins are tiny. They went this morning and scattered big (store bought) pumpkins in the patch. I can't wait to see the kids faces though.

One of the things I look forward to every year is making jack o lanterns with the grand kids.

They had a blast and I had no idea that a pumpkin plant would get that big! The kids really thought that the pumpkins grew there. Hubby had too much school work for jack-o-lanterns tonight, but we are going to carve them tomorrow.

Hi...

This should go in the 'cooking' thread...but, hey, why waste an opportunity, eh?...!!

For a quick, simple, delicious dessert...simply get some pumpkin pie filling...and either hot or cold...serve it with a caramel topping. Your guests will marvel at your dessert making expertise...!!

Way too funny! Not something I would have thought of. Maybe your parents will plant earlier next season. The pumpkins in my area did not do well - most are small and green.

It's fun to take kids to a pumpkin patch, especially when there are actually plants there (as opposed to just a bunch of pumpkins off the vine). We plan to go next week and get some to carve. I like to roast the seeds too.

I think we are actually going to plant our own patch next year since they had so much fun with it. I am home schooling my three year old so it will kind of be a science experiment for her. Plus, hubby is in culinary school so I am sure he can figure out something to do with the pumpkins. Free food!

Fresh pumpkin is sooo good. We cooked some last year and it was so much better than store bought, but then again, most homemade stuff is. I usually make pumpkin rolls and everyone clamors for them. I've already started receiving requests for this year's Christmas List.
