Default Ready for higher food prices?

The US corn crop is burning to a crisp with no relief in sight so we can all expect the cost of food to be on the rise. This story is from the end of June, but I have heard that the situation has worsened considerably since then.

I don't think it will affect our budget that much because we always keep a secure fond for food supplies just in case. Of course, if this prolongs to more than 6 months that it won't be pleasant.

Don't forget that corn is used to produce ethanol which means higher fuel prices.

Yeah, burning food for fuel is such a great idea!

Hi...

Yes, I know. And I've already been paying $4.00 and $5.00 a for a one pound loaf of whole grain bread.

Others with absolutely no connection to corn, grain, etc. will probably arbitrarily raise their prices also.

Stock up on your food now...before the hoarders get it all...!!

Remember all those jokes about bread being $20 a loaf back in the days? We thought it would never happen, and what a laugh it gave us. Who is laughing now? Those quarter loaves back in the day were a bargain.

I have noticed a major hike in food prices. Not for everything but a lot of things. That is why we plant a garden each year. We also bought a half a cow this year. 2 things I won't have to buy in stores (produce and beef).

And the farmer is getting about 8 cents out of that loaf of bread. (Math available if you want to see it)

I went to the store this morning to pick up a couple of things, and even from the weekend to today the prices have gone up. There is not a whole lot that corn is not in these days, and the wheat and soybean crops will be the next ones to burn up. Joy! I already hated going to the grocery store!

I make all of our bread anyway. A breadmaker is a wonderful thing. Real bread for the cost of the ingredients and none of the actual work.
