This is about the silliest show around but I enjoy it, they always find weird stuff in a storage unit and the fun between different company men is just great. I think its on the htv or the discovery channel if anyone is interested.

There is a group of guys in our area who do this on a regular basis. I hear that if you are not part of this "click" you will have a hard time competeing against them. Just like the show, seems like the same people who have all the cash can make you or break you early on. I wonder if the facility owners can go in there before hand and pick out some of the good stuff. I would think it would be better to just take possesion of everything and Ebay it. That would be a whole other business in itself.

People do this here too. There is an auction circuit that goes from storage place to storage place and auctions off unpaid units. You can't pick things out of units to bid on. You have to bid on an entire unit and you can't go in and move anything. You have to view them from the outside, through the open door, and bid according to what is visible.

I haven't done it but I did do some research into it. From what I'm told the owners cannot pick anything out of the units. They have to sell the contents as a whole and take whatever they get as a reduction of back rent and then chase the renter for the rest.

I've been to one. Only 4 units were up for sale. The only good unit they said the offer was not good enough to sell. A complete shock, although it would have been a nice unit if you like power tools. If I ever get some free time, I may go to some more.

I've heard from different sources that the show is not 100% acurate. Producers will place items sometimes in units after the unit is won by someone on the show. But they say they do bid against public on the show.

I have been to some but it's never been worth my while. We live in a small town but amazingly we have tons of storage units around. We are in a college town and sometimes the kids will leave things in the units because they can't be bothered. Sometimes people find some good stuff but mostly it's just junk.
