Shopping in small towns, I like going to the store to see my friends. We have fun conversations and exchange news.

Judy Ann as far as the program we contribute too, they use young Navajos to do the work, putting them to work while buying and installing the wood stoves. They may have other opportunities. The site explains the stove program -> Southest Indian Foundation.

Like Ppine says, they live very remotely from each other on a huge Rez. It is a third world country right here in the midst of American Babylon. A few who live on Black Mesa can get to the Peabody coal piles but most on the Rez would have to travel so far if they had the means, that is would not be practical. The winds do blow cold up there.

We have been extremely fortunate in this life so these stoves and installations don’t seem like much but they mean a great deal to the folks who get them.

Theosus;
I really want to try that. I have a friend that almost never goes to the store. She orders most everything online and has it shipped to her house, even groceries. I'd like to try a "year online" where I buy it all online. Some things are hard to do that with... Clothes and refrigerated food being on the top of the list.

Hi...

I typically don't wear 'fancy' clothes. Most of my clothing has been purchased online or via (mostly) catalog for the last twenty-five years...!!

Once in a while I have to send something back, but other times I can gift it to others. Example: right now I'm sending a twenty-five year old Thinsulate vest back to Beans...because it's starting to shred in places. I guess I'll soon find out how good their guarantee is, eh...??

Most of my food purchases are done in our local ShopRite. Those stores are also offering online shopping (!!), but not ours, or I might shop them online too.

I think it's time to support "buynothingchristmas"... But my wife won't let me, she wants an iMac.
The Roman Festival Saturnalia gifts were given. There is also a Finish character, Jewlsomething or other that gave gifts at this time of year. He had a goat I believe. But I understand your point.

On a side note there are some various traditions around the time of year that was sort of like gifts, such as items baked into a cake and each item represented what someone would get in the following year.

I used to do daily posts back in the day on Christmas origins, beliefs and other useless to most facts starting the day after Thanksgiving. Really interesting how Christmas came to be.

Hi...

I don't order perishables by mail, but I sometimes get some organically raised meat ordered by others. It always arrives here safe, sound, and frozen.

Many companies are now competing for your dollar to buy their frozen items from them. Meat companies, fish companies, etc.
