Default Year in review

This year we were lucky enough to be outside a lot. We hit up a lot of hiking trails, waterways and natural wonders. My SO took all of our summer photos and put together a year in review slideshow that we showed at Christmas. It was cool to look back and remember all the fun we had this summer.

I had a great year too.Took my granchildren tubing on the Delaware River, Did my usual kayak trip with a couple of friends in June. Took my 12 year old grandson on an overnight kayak trip on the river for his birthday. Also took him to hunter safety class and took him on his first deer and first pheasant hunts. Got in two short backpacking trips with my grandsons. Took all three grand kids pellet shooting a bunch of times (Grand daughter will be getting her own pellet gun for her 8th birthday in Jan.) And managed to get in a week of car camping at Locust Lake State Park. Not as much camping as I would have liked but better than mothing. To top it all off the Mrs. and I got away for a few days for our 35th wedding anniversary and we visited Harpers Ferry and Manassass Battle Field. All this while the Mrs. who lost her job after 38 years, is going to school to be a Para Legal and is studying intensly most of the time. Yea It could have been better but I'll take what I can get.

That would be great to do. I am still surprised at everything we have accomplished (and battled) this year alone. It seems like as each year passes we get a little better at things that we need to do and get to them quicker, at some point we might have a full year without any hiccups but that might just be wishful thinking too.

TakeAHike - Making a year-in-review slideshow sounds like a great idea! Unfortunately, we didn't get outside in 2012 nearly as much as I would have liked to. We actually spent a lot more time outdoors in 2011, but there are already plans in the works to step it up a notch in 2013, starting with a January camping trip.

Slow summer for me as well. Five day backpack in Yellowstone with friends and family. A three day trek in the High Uintas with SIL and my dog. A three day trek in the High Uintas with just my dog. A 5 day jaunt along the middle fork of the Salmon with dog. Several day hikes with grandkids and cub scouts. A couple of family campground outings of a few days each. A week long BSA leader training camp along the Snake River near Teton NP. Some successful deer, pheasant and grouse hunting.

Grandma and I did have a few good road trips though. A two week journey south into Texas, then over to Lousianna, Mississippi, then back through Oklahoma, Colorado and Wyoming was the highlight. Several trips to see Son and his family in Colorado, and a beautiful trip to Northern Idaho to watch grandson and his high school teammates win the state high school baseball championship. (To get to Northern Idaho from Southern Idaho you get to see a lot of Montana or Washington unless you take some real back roads. It's nearly 700 miles from here to Couer D'Alene)

We had a pretty good year too.

We got out and hiked a few more trails than normal, did a little camping, visited some state parks. We got to take a nice vacation. Hopefully we can continue the pace on into the new year.

I had a good year as well. I don't take nearly enough photos.

I took 20 separate "trips" ranging from single overnights to a week long trip. I covered just under 300 miles on these excursions. Some were "work" trail maintenance where we didn't go very far, but had to haul a lot of materials and tools. Some were on the water in my canoe. Looking back, I usually have less separate trips and more trips of extended length, both in time and distance. I know next year has a few more extended trips on the calendar already.
