Default Exploring Archaeological Sites

One of the things that I find fascinating about Sicily is the easy access to archaeological sites. Some of them looked abandoned after having been excavated like the one in the photo. We went to see about four of them but some restricted taking photos.

That's very interesting. I never thought you could do something like this. I know they now offer tours of Pompeii and I would love to go through it, but I don't think I will ever travel outside of the US.

Camoguy, Why the heck not? These days with the internet you can find really good values on airfare and options for lodging. The world is more accessible than ever!

Hi...

When I was much younger, such explorations never occured to me. Toured, yes.

I think that, after ten days, I was able to get a photo of Mt. Etna which I treasure, as it seemed like it was always covered with clouds, volcanic "vapors" etc. But did I explore the area? No.

Since then, I've very much enjoyed exploring ancient Anasazi Indian ruins throughout southeast Utah.

Any other explorations consisted of former dwelling sights near where I lived, which were less than two hundred years old.

NOTE:

"Pathfinder", who is now posting on this forum, is NOT Pathfinder1, which is me...!!

MtMa,

I used to work for several companies that did archeaological surveys. Once in awhile I worked on some. It is very interesting work, but can become tedious in cataloguing, making drawings, taking photos, and figuring the potential significance of found sites under the myriad of laws. We found a townsite once that was known to exist, but lost since the mining days of 1890 in northern Nevada called Rosebud.
