High Uinta Wilderness Four days without seeing a soul? Ahhh yes, solitude. Got a call Sunday night from SIL to go on a 4 day trek in the High Uinta Wilderness. So, throwing my pack together, three hours sleep, waking the dog so he can sleep on the road, and off to Utah to hook up with Glen and Jeremy.
The trail started flat and easy, luring us into its trap. For two miles the way led through open meadows, grazing cattle, flat even pasture land before slight grades led to the next plateau. Oh, just a little rocky here and there as we climbed higher and higher, finally leaving the Ute Indian Reservation behind and entering the wilderness. Then, holy crapola, where did all these rocks come from. Then came 10 miles of the rockiest trails I have ever seen. Now most trails have a rocky spot or three to negotiate but it seemed this was 10 miles of nothing but rock and big ones at that. But oh for the scenery and oh for the trout fishing. I really was regretting not bringing a pole in this trip. The boys caught brook and cuts for hours, keeping what they deemed had too much damage to survive for our dinners. Four days and only had to open 1 Mt house package. Not one other soul in either basin. We had the world to ourselves.
I made an album of the pics, enjoy.
