Default Magnificent Roosevelt Elk

I returned from the coast of Oregon last week and had a great time with the family. On the way there, in the lower Umpqua River Valley we saw by the side of the road, over 100 Roosevelt elk. They are the largest sub-species of wapiti and darker than the Rocky Mtn cousins. The rut was over, and there were 18 bulls grazing together. If it were only this easy during hunting season. The large 6 x 7 in the front was obviously the herd bull. He was completely worn out from all that mating. He was lying down with his chin on the ground.

No pictures. It takes a long lense and a tripod which I didn't have with me.

That would have been an awesome sight.
