Default Phil and Kathy from Florida Say Hello

Hi everybody,

Thanks for the forum.

Let's see, well, we're nature lovers who live in central Florida. When we're not exploring the woods and beaches, we're at home rehabbing squirrels and birds.

Right now we have a week old baby squirrel that is about as big as your little finger, and all pink, pink, pink.

Across the hall are a couple of baby cardinals, who insist I tell you the following:

chirp, chirp, chirp, tweet, tweet, tweet, chirp, chirp, chirp, tweet, tweet, tweet, chirp, chirp, chirp, tweet, tweet, tweet, chirp, chirp, chirp, tweet, tweet, tweet!!!
They said you should write this down, because it's very important.

Look forward to meeting you guys. Honestly, we don't camp much, well, hardly ever, um I mean never. But, with your help, perhaps we can fix that.

Hi and welcome. Where do you get the animals that you're helping?

Thanks for the welcome. The critters come mostly from a wildlife rehab group in our area. Now that we've been doing it awhile ourselves, word has spread, and sometimes local folks call us directly.

Baby squirrel season is about to begin in earnest. We're at Defcon 2 here!

Welcome Phil and Cathy. You seem like nice people.
I wish you had joined yesterday, I really needed you. On our nightly walk we came across a small bird with a broken wing and wanted to help but didn't know what to do or who to call.
Maybe you can post something telling us what to do if someone comes across this situation.

Hi again, thanks for the kind words.

Well, we've just gotten in to birds recently, so aren't experts on that, but...

I can suggest to do a little research, and see if you can find a local wildlife rehab group in your area. Put the phone number in your wallet, and the next time you'll be prepared.

In our area there is a group standing by awaiting such calls. But, they do lousy marketing, so the general public rarely knows they exist. But the animal shelter, Humane Society and vets should know. Even trim trimmers often know such things, as they are always bringing down trees with nests of various kinds.

Here's a forum that's all about wildlife rehab (not my site)

Flying squirrels, Chipmunks and Sugar Gliders

Wildlife rehab is a lot of fun (and work). It's like bringing your outdoor basecamp home to live with you. :-)
