Default Brownies on the campfire?

Can you make brownies on the campfire? I mean in a real brownie pan - not in a pie iron. We are having a birthday party at camp and my daughter wants to make brownies on the campfire. I don't think you can but I thought I would ask.

You can make them in a dutch oven but I don't see how you could make them over san open flame

I don't see why you couldn't try. It could work if the brownie mixture has a low proportion of flour or no flour at all. I like my brownies gooey in the middle so I wouldn't mind if it is slightly under-cooked. Has anyone ever tried this?

Or use a reflector oven and a baking pan.

Although I have never used one, there are now ovens designed to be used over a campstove. Look at Cabela's for example.

No, I've never tried to make brownies for camping unless it was before we left. I always find brownies dry even when we do them at home, so I don't even begin to try them while camping. There are so many things I like better.

I did a search and could not find ANY campfire brownie recipes, so it must not be possible perhaps, other than a Dutch oven. I think the closest your going to get is S'mores or fudge. Here, is a recipe for fudge, if interested.

You could use a folding Coleman oven Coleman Portable Camp Oven: Camping : Walmart.com

I have one that's been in my camp kitchen stuff for a good 25 years. Don't use it all that much, but it works pretty well. You have to keep a pretty close eye on it to get the heat regulated though.

I've baked cornbread and muffins in it, so brownies should be pretty easy.

I have never tried to make brownies on the campfire before, my girlfriend usually prepares some cookies before we leave for a trip and we usually eat them on the road.

If you can make it in your oven at home then you can make it in a dutch oven. you just gotta experiment a little. It's like anything else in lfe, you have to practice.
