Default Do You Prefer A Dry Rub Or A Barbeque Sauce?

I've got several recipes for barbecue and I know which I prefer. I have a friend who does an awesome dry rub but I really would rather have the barbecue sauce. Which do you prefer?

I very much prefer the barbecue sauces than the dry rubs. I guess it's really what you've grown up around that influences you to a certain amount.

BBQ. Now we're talking my area!

It entirely depends on what you're cooking, if you're smoking it, and if you want a bark/type of bark you want. There are a million ways to do it and fortunately they are all tasty.

I am OK with dry rubs, but if I am cooking I am going to use a BBQ sauce. I think that the mess is part of the summer fun. I also like to try other sauces when I am grilling.

I tend to cook my ribs with a dry rub. I just did a pulled pork that had some extra cooking sauce left over so I used that for a sauce. Although I did do a dry rub on the other butt that I cooked.

I knew a guy many years ago who owned a Rib joint. His Ribs were by far the best in the area at the time. Because of failing health, he had to close up shop. One day just before he closed his business, we were having a beer and he mentioned to me one of his tricks for a good BBQ sauce. He added Dry Vermouth! I have used this in many different BBQ recipes and I have always received compliments on it. I'm not one to make my sauce from scratch, I will buy KC Masterpiece or Sweet Baby Rays and mix some of the sweet or hickory smoke sauce with some hot and spicy, then add the Vermouth to taste.

I prefer sauce to rub.

I will have to try that. Once I get myself back into brewing, I want to learn how to make sauces. Hopefully I can get a good one or two before next year.

One thing I like most about sauce is that they can all taste so different and still taste great. I love the change and it keeps me from getting tired of the same old thing. As a child I remember my father making sauce and adding beer to it. I could never make it like he did so I gave up on the beer......adding it to the sauce, not drinking it!

Never tried beer in the sauce but got sauced on the beer a few times.

A little beer in the dutch oven taters enhances a good flavor so I bet it would help the sauce as well.
