Default Doughnuts??

Anyone ever made doughnuts while camping? I found this recipe and it looks pretty simple so I’m going to give it a try. You need:

Refrigerated biscuits
Butter, melted
Cinnamon
Sugar

This is how you make them: Cut refrigerated biscuits into thirds, roll each piece into a ball. String onto skewers, leaving about1/2 inch between each. Brown over hot coals, turning constantly, till done through, about seven minutes. Push off skewers into melted butter & roll in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar.

I can’t wait to try this next weekend.

I have had these and they are great. Not exactly like doughnuts but they are really close. They are also good with powdered sugar or drizzled melted chocolate.

Well now I'll definitely have to give this one a try! It seems the sort of thing that would bring nearby campers around to see what the wonderful aroma is.

That sounds delicious. And I guess we could say that they're healthier for us in the sense that they're not deep-fried? Let's go with that, anyway.

I assume you're referring to raw biscuit dough like Pilsbury's, right?

Yes Taggart any kind of canned biscuit dough will work. I have even tried it with the wheat biscuits and they are yummy with powdered sugar.

What a great idea...but doesn't the biscuit burn? as it is already cooked and all.

They don't really sound much like doughnuts, unless doughnuts in USA are different from those in UK. They sound tempting, but why are so many of the camping recipes for very sweet things?

I can answer that for my own personal reason... because getting out into the open to camp is relaxing and a getaway from stress. Getaways from stress always involve something sweet and/or chocolatety for me.

I can't really imagine getting excited about a camping trip for weeks or months and then have just vegetables to face.

A tube of refrigerator biscuits would be "raw" and not already cooked... they do burn easily, though... but this sounds as if it would work.

I'm trying it this weekend. Yes it's raw.. all refrigerator cookie dough is raw. I love sweet things when camping. I'm always looking for more desserts too. Anyone have any that want to add?
Chocolate sounds delicious on this as well!
