| Sure, gatorade and powerade are just the tip of the sports drinks. And I don't mean Red Bull. Bicycle racers are the ones that have brought energy drinks to the fore, escecially those strong on electrolytes. Just avoid the caffeine based drinks which you find in the convenience stores. The good stuff will be in the specialty (bike, hike, etc) stores.
I got a free sample package from FRS and really liked their products. They have the powder tubes that are great for backpacking and that is where I noticed the benefits. They have that free sample pack available again if you are interested. Just go to their website.
On a visit to Boulder, Co, we went to the Sunday flea market. Several booths there specialize in sports drinks and energy bars. I was feeling kind of punky packing my granddaughter around and one of the booths said here try this drink. It was an immediate energy boost. After chatting with him, he steered me away from the $25 dollar tub of energy powder in favor of the $15 dollar tub the same size of endurance powder. He said for hiking I wanted the endurance, and let the bikers use the energy.
It was good stuff too. I'm going to try and find more when I go there next month. These are all natural based, strong on the electrolytes and vitamins, formulated for specific activites. Perfectly legal in competitive sports. There are dozens of them out there, just search sports drinks. Pay attention to the ingredients.
Spending time with children is more important than spending money on them. (Don't know who said it but I like it)
