Default Endurance Supplements?

Do you take some supplements for enhancing endurance? Some people I know take rehydrating drinks but is there anything stronger but of course that is not considered illegal.

Sure, gatorade and powerade are just the tip of the sports drinks. And I don't mean Red Bull. Bicycle racers are the ones that have brought energy drinks to the fore, escecially those strong on electrolytes. Just avoid the caffeine based drinks which you find in the convenience stores. The good stuff will be in the specialty (bike, hike, etc) stores.

I got a free sample package from FRS and really liked their products. They have the powder tubes that are great for backpacking and that is where I noticed the benefits. They have that free sample pack available again if you are interested. Just go to their website.

On a visit to Boulder, Co, we went to the Sunday flea market. Several booths there specialize in sports drinks and energy bars. I was feeling kind of punky packing my granddaughter around and one of the booths said here try this drink. It was an immediate energy boost. After chatting with him, he steered me away from the $25 dollar tub of energy powder in favor of the $15 dollar tub the same size of endurance powder. He said for hiking I wanted the endurance, and let the bikers use the energy.
It was good stuff too. I'm going to try and find more when I go there next month. These are all natural based, strong on the electrolytes and vitamins, formulated for specific activites. Perfectly legal in competitive sports. There are dozens of them out there, just search sports drinks. Pay attention to the ingredients.

Hi...

A recent Reader's Digest article stated that some "energy" drinks have been blamed for heart attacks, convulsion, spontaneous abortion and even death (still being investigated by the FDA, of course!).

Some specific drinks named were 5-hour Energy Drink and Monster Energy.

The article further stated that if you need that extra boost...have another cup of coffee.

Remember...Grandpa said "Sports" drinks, not Energy Drinks.

Everybody knows something.

Maybe I didn't stress the caffeine enough in my first post. Stay away from it. 5 hr is just about straight liquid caffeine. Red Bull and the rest of those convenience store "energy" drinks aren't much better. Also avoid the sugar based drinks.

A pro golfer once told me, "never drink coffee the morning of a tournament". He loved his coffee but not on tournament day. A beer, yes, but never coffee.

You can drink an energy drink or do any of those other supplements, but they won't improve endurance - I don't care what they say. Endurance is strength and stamina related. You can't get those out of a bottle.

The only thing I bother with for stamina today is the extra couple miles I hiked last week. Best way to build stamina is working hard ahead of time.

Sometimes endurance isn't even strength and stamina related. Sometimes it's just desire related. How bad do you want it? Badly enough to work ahead of time? Badly enough to get there today?

Only "supliments"I have EVER carried are jerky, dried shrimp, andc nuts. I aint fanatical about it but I am a naturalist and dont believe in powders created in a factory when God has provided all the natural wonders a body needs. Down in cajun country I still am a nibble as ya find it kinda walker and paddler.
