Default Foil fries

Have you ever made “foil fries” when camping? I just saw a recipe for them – where you take the foil and coat it with cooking spray then you can put cut up potatoes (in the shape of fries) and put them in the foil. Wrap it up and toss the packets in the coal. Recipe says to cook for 30 minutes on coals. I printed it off for the kids to try. I know they will enjoy it. Have you tried it? Were the fries good?

I don't know about fries but I and my buddies bake sweet potatoes that way. They make a great dessert after dinner. Let them cool to the point where they are very slightly warm. They have a natural sweetness and if you did it right, are the consistency of pudding. Yummy stuff.

We have tried this and it does work. The fries taste totally different than any I've ever had before.

I don't think I would like pudding-like potatoes? Then again I guess mashed are sort of that way.

I haven't tried fries but have used foil for cooking in camps. For me as long as there is salt and a little oil, everything I cook tastes palatable enough when camping but not at home.

I've never tried fries but whole potatoes were excellent! I love experimenting with food, especially outdoors. Appetite is even bigger when you're out in the woods.

I have made fries that way at home in the oven (because it makes them crispier) but never on the camp fire. We will have to give it a go.

I love sweet potatoes too. They're delicious cold for breakfast the next morning. You're right about them being sweet, Dinosaur. We sometimes will take the ones that were left from the night before and cut them up and lightly fry them after the bacon is cooked. Very nice.

Great! We are most certainly going to try it then. I'm sure they will be awesome. I love crispy fries, and not mushy so cross your fingers that they will turn out.

That sounds good to do...I have Crohn's disease so my diet I need to be careful with..Potatoes have some sort of chemical it naturally produces that can effect those with IBD issues and Crohn's mine has been put into a fairly good remission and so far i've been able to consume potato type recipes of all kinds..Mostly I need to stay away from corn, cornmeal, pop corn, nuts..really fibrous foods in general.
