| Freeze it first I have been reading over every Strategy site I can find for the foods, and we do have limited storage in our house but I think I can make this work. How many others are freezing first before the trip starts? |

| I have never frozen my food that I take camping. I usually use a cooler and ice. But that`s not a bad idea for foods that you may not use right away. Some foods don`t taste as good after being frozen though. I`ll remember that the next time we camp. |

| I've never heard of freezing food before you take it. Why would you do that? Just to use it as ice/to make it last longer? Interesting thought. I'd love to hear more. |

Moderator | I freeze meat before I take it camping. It's usually thawed out perfectly come that first dinner time. I almost always take two cornish game hens (frozen), and have never had a problem cooking them. I have never, however, frozen anything non-meat to take camping. Don't see much a point in it, as bacteria isn't a factor for most foods when we're talking about a couple of days in a cooler with ice. I might consider freezing some pre-cut fresh fruit. Might be a yummy cooling snack. |
