Default Medicinal Importance Of Spices

I just read some great stuff about cinnamon and how it can be used in certain situation to relieve stomachache and similar problems. Makes you wonder how many herbs that we eat can help and in what way.

Amazing, isn't it? Do some more reading about Oregano, a natural antibiotic. Garlic will help clean plaque from you r arteries and veins. Elerberries and to a lesser extent grapes will bolster your immune system. Cherries reduce uric acid levels. Coffee has more antioxidants than orange juice. Cayenne pepper will give you a stronger heart. The cinnamon you mentioned will help control blood sugar levels. I can't even begin to state the benefits of tomatoes.

All the foods you eat will dictate the destiny of your health assuming you are active, even butter and red meat. So stay active and 'bon appetito'!

Mustard contains a powerful anti-inflammatory. Ginger is excellent for preventing sea-sickness.

There are lots of benefits to various herbs that have been demonstrated by actual controlled studies.

A LOT of the supposed benefits touted by companies pushing their products is nothing but BS.

In looking into things, looks for actual peer-reviewed studies published in reputable journals. The gold standard is a double-blinded study, in which neither the researcher nor the subject knows whether they have received the control or the test material.

Also, be aware that some herbs (and foods) can interfere with absorbtion and excretion of various drugs, they can also interact with them to make them ineffective, or in some cases act much more strongly.

Wow, this is truly amazing. So you can basically pack some spices with you just in case something happens to you in the wild, at least you won't be caught with nothing.

When we are on the subject I read a few books on this and I hate how most of them made this topic into a new age religion - herbalism. Why can't they separate this into an useful book.

There are older books about this- one place to look (and I haven't done this, and don't know for sure) would be in the Foxfire books. At least you'd have old lore not colored by hucksterism.

I love to use spices and herbs where I can. Take a whole clove, take the ball and the little "prongs" that hold the ball in place. Stick it between your gum and your cheek where you have a tooth ache and the pain will go away. Some will say whiskey works better, but this is the only thing that helped with my wisdom teeth.

Shameless plug, but if you are more interested in learning about herbs/spices and their uses, check out Herbalist Hut

Spices are like nature's medicine. You should be incorporating as many different kinds as possible into all of your meals. The benefits are numerous!

I used to hate having spices in my food as a kid, but now that I'm older, I've already embraced them with my stomach! Sigh... if only I listened to my mother a long time ago about the health benefits they give to our body, I wouldn't get sick back then.
