Default Parched Corn

Has anyone ever made parched corn for a snack? We used to take a cast iron skillet and heat it up well-no oil or grease. Put the hard corn in the skillet and stir it until it puffs up then cool and hope your teeth can take it. This was something that the Native Americans used to make to carry in a pouch with them if they traveled quickly or if they were on a long trip. It's pretty good. I hadn't thought about that for years.

Never tried the corn but did get a bag of chia seeds. They give a lot of energy for the weight as well.

Chia seeds? I thought that was just a pet. Are you kidding or are you serious? I'm interested especially in something that would lighten a pack with something that's energy dense.

Anything high in fat is the highest concentration of energy/weight. I've read about Iditarod sledders eating sticks of butter to get the calories they need.

I bet a bunch of roasted sesame seeds would be good.

I carry popcorn and heat it on site in my camp.

The Voyagers were fond of parched corn, high in carbos and some sugar. It seems like every processed food now is full of corn products. I try to stay away from it.
