Default Party foods in the woods

We're having a birthday party in the woods to be set next weekend. The catch is, we're looking for ideas on which food are we going to prepare that won't hurt our pockets. There are about 15 heads going to the party. Do you have some food in mind?

Is this an adult party or a kids party? Either way burgers and hot dogs are always great camping food and not that expensive, if a kids party you could even let them have fun roasting the dogs over a fire. For adults, you could do cheese and crackers, summer sausage, trail mix, stuff like that for starters; then could do chips, patato salad, pasta salad for sides. For kids, forget the starters do chips for sides and then get the smores stuff for after.

Do something simple. The dutch oven meal sounded like the least work followed by smores and laughter. Kids would love the hot dogs and hamburgers followed by smores. Either way, you gotta have smores.

While I like the dutch oven idea another thing to consider is foil wrap meals.

Foil wrap meals are nice choice. You can also put a lot of potatoes in warm wood ash. They will be done very quickly and they are tasty too.

Try pre cooking a rack of ribs at home. Then slather them with BBQ sauce and cut them into individual servings of 2-3 ribs and wrap with foil. When the time comes toss them in the fire to heat.

That is the first thing that came to mind for me too. On our shorter trips out we always tend to pack simple but bring something fun too. One year for a long trip we decided on a Mexican theme and had everything from the nachos to the piñata .
