Default Pinto Beans And Cornbread!

I usually cook pinto beans, or "soup beans" as we call them, at least once a month in hot weather and about every week in the fall and winter seasons. Fresh cornbread and a bowl of chopped onions are the sides. There is nothing better than pinto beans cooked with salt pork or ham and a fresh pone of cornbread. YUM!!

Sounds good to me. My wife was just talking about making a pot tomorrow. I love cornbread but I love fried cornbread better. The older I get the more I find myself eating what my parents did. My tastes are changing.

My grandmother called white (navy) beans soup beans. Must be a regional thing. I love almost any kind of bean, but I think my favorites are butter beans! I love them with cornbread or just by themselves.

Oh yeah. Butter beans are very good. My grandmother called them buttons for your drawers. I love beans too. The only ones I haven't tried are black beans and I've been thinking of trying those too. I love lentils cooked with chicken broth, carrots and onions too.

MMM beans and cornbread sound good. I think I'll wait til tomorrow. It is 65 today and will be only 40 tomorrow. I also use all kinds of beans and all kinds of meat. Last cold spell I made a big pot of beef with a # of navy beans, a # of pinto's, half a # of lentils and a 2 1/2 # beef roast.
Scotty, how do you fry cornbread? It sounds good.
I also make a big pot full and freeze theleftovers in quart freezer bags so I can just mike em when I want some bean soup.

Hmm, pintos as a soup bean? I thought it was a bean for chili and refried beans only!

I actually have some in the slow cooker right now with some salt pork, and I sauteed some onions and garlic to throw in there too. I will definitely be frying up a little cornbread to go with it too.

I am good with just about any bean out there but I will politely pass on the cornbread. I have never liked the stuff and no clue why. Even as a child it was like pulling teeth to try and make me eat it.

I just mix up cornbread and fry it like you do hotcakes. I like to use my large skillet and pour some oil, heat it until will start frying the second you pour out the mix, turn it and enjoy it with fresh cow's butter when you take it out. My cornbread mix is about a cup and a half of yellow self rising cornmeal, an egg, buttermilk to make it easy to pour. That's about it. I don't use a whole lot of stuff in my cornbread. As a matter of fact, I've made cornbread with just cornmeal, an egg and water when I didn't have buttermilk.
