Default slow cook it first

I was talking to a coworker of mine today who said they slow cook most of their foods before heading out on a trip. This way they can bag it up and just toss most of it on a skillet once they are at the campsite. Anyone done this before? I could think of some meals for it but not enough for an entire trip.

i do ground turkey and then freeze . easy for bbq or chili .
have cooked roasts , sliced it , then just warmed it in the juices .
pre cooked red cabage and warmed it up
worked well for pot luck dinners

I will hardly do it. I mostly bring food that is easy to prepare or if not already fully prepared. I don't like to waste time on doing the dishes outdoors.

We don't do this either. We opt for foods that are easy to prepare most of the time, unless we're planning a grand meal on the barbecue. Then we put one of the men in charge who is really good at outdoor grilling. He slow cooks it, but he doesn't do it ahead of time.

Nope, it's not something I have ever done. I don't think it would taste the same either. We just toss the food on the campfire grate or the grill and let it cook!

Sounds like it might be a plan for a very organized camper which wouldn't be me. At most, we might prepare sauce for pasta, or chili to warm up at some point but that's about it.

A big reason to go camping is to get a little wood ash in the gravy and a little smoke flavor in everything else. A wood fire just makes everything taste better. Why waste the opportunity by cooking it at home first?

There are three kinds of men:
a. The ones that learn by reading.
b. The few who learn by observation.
c. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.

Hi...

The only pre-cooking I do is then stored...or frozen...in boiling bags for use later. This works out fine.

Warning: dates in calendar are closer than they appear.
