Default Sweet potatoes

Has anyone tried cooking sweet potatoes in an open camp fire in much the same way as you do regular potatoes? We've tried this and actually enjoyed them. I was reluctant to make the trade because we like the regular ones so well. It was a good change of pace.

Absolutely. Wrap them in foil and put them in the coals. Let them cool and they make a great snack before bedtime.

We lo ve sweet taters and do them often either in foil in the coals or cut and fried like french frys. While at the Fair yesturday we met a wonderful grandma type who had sweet tater pie in the pie contest. Well not only did it win but she also swept 1st, 2nd and third in the pie contest.

Love sweet potatoes wrapped in foil and roasted. No need for butter, salt or pepper.

Here's a tip when choosing sweet taters don't go for the great big ones they tend to be not as sweet and fiborus. Go for the skinny smaller ones.

I love sweet potatoes. When we have a garden we always make sure we plant enough hills to try to last the winter. You have to make sure you cull them though, so they don't rot on you. You have to check them at least every week. We cook them the same, just throw them in the fire and rake them out.

Sweet potatoes are the state vegetable here in NC. Nothin better than one right out the garden and into the fire....

They are good to warm hands in pockets in the early hours and snack on later between breakfast and lunch.

Yes, I have had them that way. I have also covered them in foil and cooked them on the grill that way. The only problem is that I have to have brown sugar and butter on mine or I don't really like them.
