| Trail Mix Does anyone make their own trail mix from scratch? My sister-in-law made some a couple of years ago. She baked the mix in the oven. It was quite good, but more of a snack item than one you would take on the road.

| I don't make my own - I was hoping this was a recipe. I've had homemade trail mix several times and my family loves it. I have never made it though!

| For the price and quality, I like wal-marts mountain mix when hiking. What kind of trail mix do you bake, Jeep? I'd be interested in seeing that recipe.

| I usually mix our own, so everyone can have their favorite. For me, I like to mix up dark chocolate, craisins and/or dried cherries, mixed nuts, and coconut.
For my girls, the usual mix is plain M&Ms, teddy grahams, goldfish crackers, and whatever cold cereal they like at the moment.
Hubby likes everything hot & spicy, so I grab whatever spicy snacks there are from the bulk bins at the grocery store, things like wasabi peas, chili corn nuts, tabasco cheez-its, spicy peanuts, etc.
I've never baked any sort of trail mix though. Is it sort of like a granola?

| I usually get a bag of trail mix and tweak it with my own ingredients. I love cashews, and they help counteract some of the dried fruit in the mixes that are a little too sweet for my taste.

| I've never made any home brewed trail mix excepting pemmican (if that can be called trail mix). Couldn't bake it anyway, as my electric oven's controls were knocked out in a lightning storm about five years ago.
Fortunately, I'm an expert in stove-top cooking...!!

| I would be interested in the baked kind too, Jeep. Much like the rest of you, I usually just buy trail mix. However, my sister-in-law makes the best snack mix in the world and gives it for Christmas. We usually add to it and presto, our own trail mix.

| This is without a doubt the kids favorite part of packing up before the trip. We all have our own checklists but the kids always set aside time to help out with the snacks that we bring. And each trip out, one bag of mix is gone before we get there.

| My wife buys the basic trail mix from the bulk food bin, but then we add other things to it depending on what we feel like. Often we add extra nuts like cashews and almonds, or some sesame sticks. I like the way they take on the flavor of the rest of the mix.

I follow the Chex cereal recipe for Chex Mix, then chop up dried fruit (apricots, bananas, etc) and add them to it. Sometimes I put peanuts or cashews in it.
It's good, but the Chex Mix is kind of sticky and I always feel like I need to wash my hands when I'm done. I guess I would like something that is a bit drier, but not as dry as granola - if that makes sense.
