Fishing with the Family

Did you ever take your family out on a fishing trip during summer camp? How successful was the fishing experience with the children and the wife?

I've gone with family when I was kid. I have yet to take mine out as she is only 2. I enjoyed going on when I was kid, I learned a lot back then. Would love to share that knowledge onto mine if they show interest.

Hehe, great story about fishing with the family...

So we were at a cabin and we decided to go fishing. Well my family consists of my wife, 5 year old and 2 year old boys, and of course myself. We had a 12' aluminum boat that we were going out in. Well... we get into the boat with minimal rocking and bobbing and start heading onto the lake. Now, my kids both have (had) their own fishing poles. My youngest has a Spongebob pole that floats, the oldest "had" a Cars pole that apparently does not. The youngest thought it would be a great idea to throw the Cars pole into the water, I mean hey... you throw the hook into the water, the pole must work better.

Well after that we realized that we have forgotten the worms. So I turn the boat around and head to the dock. I am in the back of the boat, my oldest son is on the middle seat, and my wife and youngest son are on the front seat. As we get to the dock my wife got out to go get the worms from the cabin. My son, being two, wanted to stay with mom... well two year old's don't make very good bridges between boats and docks. He tried to get out of the boat also and as he did the front of the boat started moving away from the dock. Sitting in the back I wasn't able to keep the front of the boat against the dock with him pushing it away.

Needless to say I jumped forward and pulled him back into the boat, funny thing about that is, I lost my balance and after a few seconds of trying to regain myself I decided it was smarter to jump out. When I jumped out the water was already rushing over the side of the boat. As I jumped I rocked the boat a little more than expected and took my oldest son out of the boat with me. Both kids were wearing life preservers and all of us were fully clothed. The youngest one stayed in the boat alone while we went for a swim.

By far the funniest part was my oldest walking back to the cabin screaming/crying "I'M SOAKING WET". I tried to tell him that it would be okay and he would dry off to which he repeatedly replied "BUT I'M SOAKING WET". Oh, the joys of parenthood.

One time I took my wife fishing and we left the house at 4:30 AM. She griped about how early it was all the way to the lake. When she got there she caught two 20" trout and I got skunked. Sheesh!
