| Best Beginner Tent I'm working on Christmas gifts and thought I'd get my brother a tent for camping. I've never purchased one before though, so I was wondering what a good starter tent is. |

Moderator | I'd aim for around $50, and look at places like Wal-Mart and Target. Places like REI, Bass Pro and GOPC have some great tents, some great tents, but they're definitely NOT beginner tents. I've look all through the prices, and I think you get more for $50 from Wal-Mart than $100 gets you at higher-end shops. I still have a "starter tent" as a backup. It's an Ozark Trail from Wal-Mart, and was $30. I've camped in it in the wind, rain and snow. Rain and snow, it held up great. I was beach camping with high winds (30 mph with gusts near hurricane strength that night), and it didn't stand up all that well. But hey, most $100-$200 tents wouldn't either. |

| Is this just for your brother or does he have a family too? I have seen tents with many rooms in them! They are awesome if you want the extra room. I agree, just go to Walmart and see what they have. Don't get the cheapest thing you find. Remember you get what you pay for. |
