LOL. I rarely go into Walmart because the two items I ran in to get ends up costing me $100!

Hey, it's only money. If you want the toy, get it.

At least someone gets me.

I have a hobby and that hobby is discovering the best tool for a certain job. Survival knife - a knife that will be the knife that you can use for anything, more importantly a knife that can endure everything you put it through. I believe Bravo 1.5 has that potential.

Some things are just worth the money, no one can convince me otherwise. But don't think that price nowadays goes hand in hand with quality. Usually yes but not always and that is the thing to watch out.

I agree, the only quality nowadays is the quality of the merchandising.

You get what you pay for is a good general rule, but far from a concrete one. Often a far cheaper item may be the better alternative.

When buying anything over about $50, I check to see what Consumer Reports says. I take their ratings with a grain of salt though. Then I go to a place like Amazon.com and read the ratings of real people using the item in real world situations. I take those with a grain of salt too, but I can get a good sense of whether the item is one I should buy, or if I should consider another make/model.

For the past year or so we've been following the Dave Ramsey plan for debt reduction.

It's very rare that I've gotten to splurge on anything in that time. At least we have some bills paid off though, and before too long we'll be debt free. When that time comes, I may be back to doing these types of things. Go shopping for a tent, come home with a boat instead. Well, maybe not that extreme, but I've been known to go for one thing and come home with another.

I hate Consumer Reports. When I first got married, and money was very tight, I used their ratings to pick out all of our appliances and our car. ALL OF THEM crapped the bed quickly. Every... single... one. Consumer Reports can go take a flying leap.

This happens to me all the time. I'll save for months for a special something I've been wanting. Then something comes along that I think one of the grandchildren would enjoy. Guess who gets a present? In a way, when I buy for them, both of us end up enjoying the purchase.

It does not matter where I go I am guilty of this! I love to shop and I guess I just want everything. That said if I am at the store long enough, I usually contemplate my purchases and end up putting some of it back.
