Default Canopy

What does everyone do for shade or bug protection, while camping? I am not so worried about bugs, but I thought a canopy might be nice. Are there some canopies that are better than others?

I've seen a generic blue tarp used to good effect.

My favorite canopy is a large pine tree.

Canopies are great, but things like mosquitos and flies can still get inside of them. If mosquitos are a major factor, I'm of course going to use Deep Woods Off or some other bug repellent. I do have a couple of chairs that have built in large umbrella holders so you can sit and block the sun rays.

I don't usually take a canopy with me when I camp. It's either lift the flaps on the tent and sit there or sit in the shade of the nearest tree. We have tried a lot of different bug repellents but find that Off! works better than anything.

We have one of those things that accordian out to 10 by 10 but we just use that here in the yard or at summer ball games. Camping, a good old cheap tarp is still the next best to Lamebeavers pine tree.

Wally World puts their 10 by 10 canopies on sale every fall for 70-80 dollars.
I have one and love it. Keep in mind if you would rather use a tarp, while costing less, some parks and camp grounds won't allow you to put a rope in the trees.

Trees for shade and DEET for bugs. If it's really bad I may resort to a head net.

I usually just use the aforementioend generic blue tarp for shade and to cover the cooking area if it's really rainy. For bugs I've found that this: 3M is the best product I've ever tried.

The 10x10 canopies are great, but take up a good bit of room and are pretty heavy.

Don't car camp I just normally backpack so don't have a canopy. However the 3m product mentioned is great stuff. Used it last summer and was very pleased.

We have a travel trailer that has a big roll out canvas awning. Basically we carry our canopy with us as part of the trailer, so it's always at the ready
