Cool Got a Free Lantern!

I went up to my parents over the weekend to visit for a while. My dad had been cleaning out the garage and found a propane lantern there. He kept swearing it was mine, and I kept swearing it was his. Finally I relented and took it, sometimes you just can't argue with parents and win.

When I got home, I started checking it out. It did look really familiar, and after a few minutes it finally clicked. The plastic case that wouldn't stay together, it had a bungee chord wrapped around it to hold it together. The lantern itself with the electronic ignition that only works half the time. Then I remember the aggravation of lighting it, and putting the bungee chord on the case so it would hold together. I remembered storing that lantern in the garage when I was still a teenager when I had gotten a new one and put the old one up for a spare.

I had forgotten all about it being there, but what I received over the weekend was my first lantern of my very own. I used that thing on many a camping trips, and when I finally remembered it a bit of nostalgia set it.

I got a free lantern, and the funny thing was that it was already mine in the first place.

I love this story, Bojib. We've all been given things that seem familiar at the time, but we can't precisely figure out why. At some point it dawns on us that this thing was ours in the first place. Its happened to me. It's funny how the brain works.

I love when the mind works like that, we have gotten free stuff before too. My husband has also re-gifted random items for me as jokes for years. At least four years running I managed to get the same boots each winter.

Something similar happened to me a few months ago. I found a SAK lying around at my parents place. I asked my dad if he needs it, he said: "Nop, take it if you wan't it". When I took it home and started playing around with it, I noticed the small knife had a chipped tip. Only then did I realize that it was the same knife I used as a pry bar to open my first beer.
