Default Jet Boil

My husband bought a jet boil, a while back. It is a little container that hooks to a small propane tank. This device is a must have for camping, and even emergencies! As is you can cook chili/soup, or cook MREs. There are separate pieces you can buy, like a coffee making hookup or frying pan. During the summer we had some big storms, that knocked our power off for a week. We used the jet boil to have warm food!

If you have a it boil, what uses have you found for it? What attachments, for the jet boil, have you found handy?

Other than give a link to the other things that are available for Jet Boils afraid I am not much help. I have seen then used but as a backpacker have never purchased on. For what I do which is simply boiling water I found the system to be expensive and to heavy. I use a MSR Pocket Rocket. Here is a link to the different things available that you may find interesting.

I have and love my Jetboil Flash. It's perfect for my BPing style. I used it last year for a 5 day trip on the AT and had no issues. I have yet to take it out during winter camping - I've been told they aren't reliable in cold weather.

During the aftermath of Irene we were without power for 6 days. At my house that means no water (we're on a well). Fortunately we had filled every cooler and container before the storm hit so our only need was for hot water. We set the Jetboil up next to the bathroom stove and it allowed us the "luxury" of warm/hot water sink baths.

Fox & Hounds from what I have seen the Jet Boil will work fine down 20 to 0 degrees. The temp and altitude are what make the difference in what temps it works at. The issue isn't the stove itself but due to the the fuel can dropping pressure. One thing that I hvae rad that seems to work well is to place the fuel in a jacket or at bedtime put it in your sleeping bag. This will keep it warmer and the pressure will build back up as the gas expands. I have seen then work fine below zero this way.

I do not own a Jet Boil, but I would find having one handy. I might have to check into the MSR Pocket Rocket, too. Thanks for the helpful info and link. I, thankfully, have only experiences minor power outages. I shudder to think of not being prepared for a major outage. I better check into one of these systems soon, before winter brings snowstorms!

If you are looking to use it for cooking for emergency situation may want look into the group cooking system that jet boil makes. However at 150 MSRP you may just look at on old fashion camp stove with a dual burner. Advantage to those is that they can use the same fuel as gas grill and could be used for other things as well.

Just boiling water? Want something simple and inexpensive? Try this.

The Super Cat Alcohol Stove

You won't believe how well this works, plus it's fun to make your own.

I only use mine for boiling water, and it can't be beat for convenience, size and reliability.
I did get the small frying pan for it but never had any luck getting the heat regulated enough to cook without burning

I use the French press for a good cup of coffee or two in the morning. The best use of the Jetboil is boiling water and it is a work horse in my camp.
