| Problem with stereotypes is that they're rarely applicable. I'm a nerd. Not just a guy with a smartphone but a nerd. Video games, Dungeons and Dragons, comic books, millions of apps, Renaissance Festival, etc.
How do I camp? I walk off into the woods toting a 17lb. pack and get myself lost for a few days. The phone is off, the weather is unknown until it happens, and I don't give a damn what's going on in the world if I can't see/hear/smell it.
I'm a nerd but I let go of the entire world when I hit the trail and I sleep the sleep of the dead when the sun drops. And I know plenty of nerds who let go more than your average "outdoorsmen". My girlfriend is one of them.
